Event organized by OnFoods Foundation.

OnFoods is an active partnership in major areas of food research – from nutritional quality to food safety, from supply chain sustainability to process innovation – and is structured into seven major thematic research groups (called Spokes): true centers of excellence in personalized nutrition, food quality and safety, sustainable food systems, circular economy, digital and robotic technologies, food education, and supply chain innovation.

OnFoods joins Cibus Tec Forum to offer scientific content, concrete projects, and technology transfer opportunities, creating highvalue connections between academia and industry.

Session overview

Each year, about one third of the food produced globally is lost along the supply chain, often already during production and logistics stages.

This OnFoods session addresses the issue of food waste with a circular economy approach, developing green processes and biotechnologies to transform waste and by-products into valuable resources. The goal is to make supply chains more resilient, transparent, and capable of generating value.

Among the proposed solutions, intelligent logistical strategies employing advanced technologies will be presented, aimed at reducing surpluses and waste; the implementation of sustainable physical and chemical methods to obtain new ingredients; and the optimization of efficient extraction techniques for the recovery of bioactive compounds with high nutraceutical value.

However, all these innovations require a subsequent phase of in-depth analysis, during which circularity assessment tools are developed to ensure the safety, effectiveness, and true sustainability of the proposed new processes. In this session, researchers with different areas of expertise and companies will highlight their collaborations aimed at developing the sustainable food systems of the future
